PostHeaderIcon Even Second Life Gets pulled into the Political hype

So where is the UCLA on this one? What about all the free speech advocates to demand libraries not block real life porn sites 'because it's freedom of speech'? What about the fact that Second Life is far safer from inappropriate use from miners than say... 'My Space.com'?

It's another round of hyperbole as election season comes up and more feel-good nonsense. The news wires this morning are riddled with this story of some dumb ass congressman with nothing better to do that to soapbox his desire of banning Second Life from schools and libraries.

Ummm, a hint, Mr Idiot: The Britney Spears web site is far more dangerous to children than Second Life. But alas, it's an election year and the politicians will grab onto whatever will get them into the news with any message of "caring" and their "efforts" to babysit the public for the opportunity and reason to get their 3-second sound bites into the news. No matter how disingenuous it is.
Rep. Mark Kirk, who is seeking re-election this year, staged a press conference at a library in his suburban Chicago district on Tuesday to highlight what he called the "dangers" of the virtual world to children. Flanked by local officials, he also released a letter asking Federal Trade Commission Chairman William E. Kovacic to "take action to warn parents of the similar dangers and sexually explicit content found on Second Life."
