PostHeaderIcon Pedophiles Prey In Second Life?

Hamlet Au has a little blurb over at New World Notes about a Pedophile who groomed a preteen-turned-teen in the online virtual world of Gaia was caught as he flew in to Vancouver, Canada.

Among his comments, Hamlet says:
Pedophile Caught After Grooming Child in Gaia: "This is one to keep an eye on, though, as it may get some coverage in the coming weeks with the approach of the holidays and the Second Life divorce story just winding down.

The important thing, though, is that Burasite was caught. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like he was stopped by any online measures."

Okay, come-on, Hamlet. Let's put things into perspective here.

Pedophiles disgust me as much as anyone one else, except pedophiliacs themselves. The online virtual world of Gaia is targeted to the younger crowd. Children and young-teens if I recall correctly. Even if I'm wrong, I don't care. The point is that Gaia is a kid-friendly place.

How this story relates in any way to Second Life, I'm not so sure about. Okay, I can see the hook: that dipshit so-called-news-reporters will bring Second Life into it.

Of course, what all those dipshit idiots will fail to see, understand and fathom, far, far less even think to mention is that Second Life is specifically billed as an adults-only virtual world.

Thus, if there are pedophiles in Second Life, chances are they aren't stupid enough to even think of actually looking for underagers in-world. And if there are any underagers in-world, they want to be all grown-up - so it is highly likely that beyond the way they act, there isn't any real way to get them to divulge their age.

Yes, yes, I know, there are likely a lot of sickos who 'hook-up' in Second Life so they can spread their filth out-world, but you get the main gist of my rant here.
